What is a Pattern Book?
A collection for patterns that belong together.
A Pattern Book is an organizational collection, similar to a playlist. The same saved pattern can belong to a Ranch book, a favorite youth patterns book, and a county fair planning book at the same time.
Because those books point to the same editable pattern, a normal edit appears everywhere that pattern is used. ShowPatterns warns you before opening a pattern that belongs to multiple books so you can choose whether to edit it everywhere or make a separate copy.

A good pattern library should answer the way people remember their work: “that ranch pattern from last year's fair,” “a Level I horsemanship pattern,” or “the pattern with the bridge and gate.”
Pattern details hold reusable classification and private notes. Book-specific headers let one saved design use the show name and date from a Show Book without rewriting the pattern's own header.

Patterns versus published books
Keep working files editable and published versions stable.
Pattern Books are for organizing active work. A Show Book is the version of that organization intended for one event. Publishing creates a frozen, read-only version, so later edits to the working patterns do not silently change a version exhibitors already received.
That separation makes it possible to keep improving the library while preserving exactly what a published show used.

Does adding a pattern to two books create two copies?
No. Both books point to the same saved pattern. If you edit that pattern, the edit appears in both books. Make an independent copy first when the design needs to change separately.
Can a Pattern Book be for one discipline?
Yes. A book can hold an ongoing discipline library, one season's work, favorites for a certain level, or the patterns planned for one show.
How many Pattern Books can a free account create?
A free account can currently create up to 3 Pattern Books. Pro with higher limits is coming soon.
Do published Show Pattern Books change when I edit a pattern?
No. Each published version is frozen. Publish a corrected version when the working book changes.
